Blood Wedding
by Lorca dir. Kristiine Landon-Smith
It was my pleasure to revisit Ted Hughes poetic adaptation of Lorca's Blood Wedding again with the students on the BA Acting Course at St Mary's University. The play presents many challenges to young actors but my students learnt that if they simply listen and surrender to the text and it's poetry completely then the speaking of the text becomes effortless and fluent. With the excellent design and technical team we created a rural landscape covered in hay. An outdoor table with chandeliers hanging over it set for the doomed wedding breakfast sat ominously in the background. Haunting music composed by Felix Cross completed the picture.
