The aligned methodologies of Kristine's practice which teaches actors to play as themselves in order to find complicité and Fabio's clown state work offers a training that places the performer at the centre of the creative process. Through our shared methodology actors are empowered to find freedom, agency, and authenticity in their work.
We aim to create a more equitable and inclusive approach to Actor training, de-colonising many of the power hierarchies often present in a rehearsal room and giving a voice and value to one's own cultural identity as an integral ingredient to the artistic process.
Actors who train with us will develop an embodied technique, which builds skills in authentic connection, deep listening and a profound trust in their artistic practice.
The rapport between actors not characters, like the rapport that two close friends exhibit when they are together.
When actors are open because they are playing authentically as themselves. By being open they find a delicate and beautiful complicité with each other which allows them the pleasure to play fluently and effortlessly together.
This methodology asks the performers to bring all of themselves, inclusive of their distinct cultural identity, to a rehearsal room and performance. From this sense of self, the performers are encouraged to open themselves up to find complicite with each other and explore their pleasure to play. When actors find that pleasure to play well together, through their complicite, they are no longer encumbered by the constraints of finding a character but instead are freed to bring the text to life through their own sense of self and pleasure to play in a role. Clown work asks the actors to further open up complicite by allowing themselves to be seen in a state of innocence and na"ivete in front of an audience. This approach asks the performer to commit to a deep-seated presence and connection with their scene partner and audience. From this place of presence, an actor can discover what is uniquely hilarious and beautiful about them, as well as what the audience loves to see them do. Clown work not only opens doors for devised work or creating clown sketches or routines but offers the essential ingredients to great acting work. The combined training asks the performer to come to the floor as themselves and to actively seek complicité with their scene partner or the audience.
The approach is ideal for the artist in any stage of their career who want to empower their artistic practice and bring more of their authentic self to their work, whether it be in film, television, theatre, devising or comedy.
